Blog Post 1.5: Eve's Choice Response

The question I'm going to evaluate is if it is fair for a reader to claim that she made a bad choice. This answer can be seen as important as it would either validate or invalidate the written word of 2 major religions, the Torah and the Bible. Judaism and Christianity both rely on this book of genesis being a choice as the punishment was given because of their decision that shapes the entire rest of the book. Without this choice the entire book would be null and void which is why this matters.

Now in terms of her making a bad choice or committing a sin it should be pretty cookie cutter. She was previously told by God to not eat from the tree in the middle for she will die, shown  in paragraph 2 as she clearly knows not to eat it. And she then proceeds to touch and eat from the fruit, therefore breaking the only rule given to her by God. In my eyes this should be a sin as breaking this rule results in a punishment much like a "sin" would. Thus this is a bad choice.

Reasons for not passing judgement are easier to make but at the same time will not resolve the question as it can create a paradox. For example we could say that because she did not know that dying is bad she would not realize the gravity of her choice thus not making it a sin but rather simply being oblivious. But then god would not have treated it like a sin by giving her and Adam a punishment. But without eating the fruit they would continue to be oblivious thus not knowing that it was a mistake as they did not understand the rule. This could go back and forth forever but without the fruit being eaten they would not know the weight of what they were doing or the rule itself, therefore she and Adam can not be judged for being unaware.

My position on it is that she clearly knew this was a rule and proceeded to break it, being oblivious or not as people get charged with crimes in the present even with being unaware. This then means that this is a bad choice. Add on the fact that all bad choices have a punishment or downside in some form or another makes it so that this choice is bad as it came with the banishment from the paradise. Therefore a reader can in fact claim that it is a bad choice.
